Building the Aztec

The Aztec is a Fiberfab body from California mounted on a Volkswagen chassis with Porsche brakes and a Corvair 4 carb engine.

Engineering seems a little dated now, but it was state of the art in 1968.

I drove the car for one great summer in 1968, took it to car shows where it won trophies, and then retired the car to the shop for necessary modifications.

Life becamne too busy with marriage, a new home to build and children. The car is still waiting for the 1969 refit to be completed.

But for that brief summer in 1968, I knew what it was like to be a celebrity because there was no stopping without gathering a crowd. In time, it became quite tiresome, and I was pleased to return to being a nobody again when winter came.
