My photo

Welcome to my world

Mary and I were married in June 1970. We have three grown children and 9 grandchildren.

I retired on October 19, 2002, after 32 1/2 years with the Canadian federal government. In December of 2002 I was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for contributions I made to the Federal Government Department I worked for and for the work I did as a Foster Parent.

In June 1992 I was awarded the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal and in June 2006 I received the Bar to the Medal.

Mary is self employed as an Insurance Broker and plans to work for another few years.

We have been campers for all our married life. We began camping in a Canadian Tire tent trailer (and that is all it was, a tent on a trailer), then into soft top tent trailer with a stove, sink and dintette. There was no water, no furnace and no electricity. Then we bought a brand new 1974 Jayco Jay Thrush fully loaded, for the day. We camped in this until it litterally rotted out from under us. We tried tenting in 2001 and soon discovered that we were too old for that, so in September 2003 we purchased a 1999 Coleman Westlake tent trailer and in August of 2005 we traded it in on a 2000, 21 foot Aero Cub Hybrid. Check out the "Photo Gallery" link for pictures of the trailer and other things.

For 4 years Alex took night courses at Algonquin College and in fall 2002 qualified for a Certificate in Cabinet Making Techniques.

We both enjoy gardening and every year we have a large vegetable garden. It is slowly getting smaller as all the kids have gone and we are planting more and more fruit bushes and vines.

We have been foster parents since 1986 with Mary having served two terms as President of the Prescott/Russell Foster Parents Association. Currently she is president of the Eastern Ontario Foster Parents Association and Regional Director of Area 5 (everything east of Ottawa) of the Foster Parents Society of Ontario. Alex has served one term as Area Director.
